"Just replaced the conrods bearing shells and bolts with OEM replacement parts last weekend. The engine is BXE from late 2007, with just 106.000 km done.
As you can see in the picture, the upper halves of the shell bearings are toasted, there is hardly any trace of anti-friction material remaining on them, as opposed to the lower shell bearings, which look almost new. The engine was always serviced regularly, within the first 75.000 km the service was done at the Skoda dealership, every 15.000 km, always with Castrol Edge/SLX 5w30 507.00, and after that I've done it myself every 10.000 km with the same oil.
The crankshaft didn't seem to be damaged, so I just put on the new bearing shells and new conrod bolts. Did the job at a friend's garrage, it took the two of us about 2 hours to complete. So far I managed to drlve it only for about 300 km, and everything seems ok, but for the next oil change I think I'll go with Motul.
The cost of the bearing shells is about 50 euros for the upper halves, 50 euros for the lower halves and 40 euros for the conrod bolts."
